Co-Lab Theory

The first spotlighted release featured an animated lyric video from Illustrator, Graphic Designer and Animator Jason Edumunds, a visual interpretation of Lovescene and Indigo's track 'Uneasy'.

This represents just one of the collaborative explorations for this project, which paired 8 up-and-comers of the music scene with 8 distinguished artists to make a track in 16 hours, each of which has been interpreted by 8 varied visual artists.

For the collaboration between Werkha and Rhod Parry, Renata Leemhuis drew on the energy from the music and their production session, to deliver the visualiser for their track 'Flatcap'.
Swing Ting & PERiiSU delivered a joyous fusion of Dancehall and UK Garage, with the track entitled 'Business & Culture'.

Videographer Yohan Reitan, translated these ideas as narrative through the medium of a music video, starring Rico Marshall & Simmeon Naphtali.

Remote rhythm lab

Episode 1 goes behind the scenes of one of the international and remote collaborations, where we gave Chicago's "spiritual jazz soothsayer" Angel Bat Dawid & Tha Brothahood and MCR's very own Berry Blacc a day to make track together.

Despite the physical distance between them, their creative spirits clearly aligned in their emotive encapsulation of the current moment with their tribute to 'George Floyd'.

Episode 2 documents the collaborative process between Nairobi's KMRU & Manchester's Contours. Where KMRU has become known in East Africa for his pioneering experiments in atmosphere and ambience, Contours is a maestro of rhythm and grooves.

Watch how they overcame the distance between them of over 6000 miles, to create a bridge between their musical worlds, resulting in ‘Portals'

For this episode, we decided to collaborate with Milan's Radio Raheem and they suggested to pair PLASTICA (Milan), whose futuristic electronic sound is informed by her musical background in piano and bass guitar, with our resident Imaginary Part (Manchester via Modena), who delves in sonic escapism via leftfield, techno, ambient sound, IDM and broken beat — together they created a track titled ‘Zoom Aves.'
The final installment of Remote Rhythm Lab, brings an insight into how two up and coming trailblazers of the experimental club music, Ani Klang (Berlin) & Daniel Ruane (Manchester), manage to channel their energetic and chaotic sounds within this time constraint.

The result was their aptly titled 'Silverfish Skuttle'.
